USSR & Books Exhibition

Orchids has always tried to inculcate reading habits among the students. The school therefore had a USSR week from 23/9/13 to 28/9/2013. All the students of I-X classes avidly read books during the specific time allotted for reading.

To motivate and encourage students to read more and to improve their thinking and writing skills, the school also organized a book fair. The three-day-exhibition by Scholastic Inc., gave the students an opportunity to browse through titles and select books which were purchased on the day of Parent- Teacher meeting on 28/9/13.

HEALTH CHECK-UP FOR TEACHERS

Members of the positive health group conducted a general check-up for all the teachers on 25/09/2013. It included checking of B.P, Sugar levels, Height, Weight and Dental Check-up. An eye-examination by Dr.Agarwal’s Eye Hospital followed.

Health Examination

The members of the Positive Health group carried out a Health Check-up for all the students at Orchids-The International School on 25/09/13. The students were provided with privilege cards and were counselled on proper brushing style and the importance of maintaining Dental Hygeine.

On the same day, Dr.Agarwal’s Eye Hospital conducted an eye screening camp. It included a retraction check-up and a counselling session. The students were counselled on healthy eating habits to safeguard vision and were provided privilege cards enumerating their various benefits. The teachers were also able to benefit from an eye examination.

Theme: Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan - Indian Philosopher

Class VIII B was assigned the theme ‘Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – Indian Philosopher’ for their assembly.

On the first day they shared general information about the philosopher who was also our 2^nd president.

On the second day, they gave details about his early education and family. Details about his Philosophy

 were given on the 3^rd day. On the last day, a quiz was conducted for the students .It was altogether a very informative week.

Teachers’ Day Celebration

On 5/9/2013, there was a lot of excitement in the air as the students of Orchids geared up for one of the most awaited events – Teachers’ Day.  The enthusiasm was very much visible while they were planning for the occasion.

The day started with the Principal lighting the lamp.  The students of Classes VIII to X who represented the teachers also ‘taught’ in the classes. All the teachers received tokens of affection from the students and the school. It was followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

The teachers later displayed their singing talents through a game of ‘antyakshari’.  The day ended with an extended lunch for the staff members. 

Telugu Day Celebrations

On 30/8/2013, as it was the Jayanthi of Gidugu Ramamurthy Panthulu, we the Telugu students of Orchids- The International School, celebrated Telugu Day with great vigour and joy.

The programme started with a graceful Kuchipudi dance dedicated to the Telugu Talli.

Later, the tiny tots of the school sang a few rhymes to show their joy on the occasion.

This was followed by the recital of the Telugu alphabet.

Then, Roshith Bhanu, from class VIII, sang a song both in the traditional and contemporary styles.The students of classes IX and X performed a small skit depicting the importance of education.

Sama Pavan Reddy ended the celebration, with an extremely outstanding monologue. It was the highlight of the event and portrayed the greatness of mankind.

Our Telugu teacher, the Head of the Telugu Department, Mrs. Talasila Rama Devi, gave the vote of thanks. We also thank our other Telugu teachers, Mr. Venkatadri and Mrs. Sunitha for their ideas and cooperation.

Theme: Mother Teresa - The Angel of Mercy

Class-VIII-A conducted the assembly theme from 26/8/2013 to 31/8/2013. The theme was Mother Teresa. Monday there was brief introduction about Mother Teresa.  Tuesday –there was a skit based on how she came to India and settled in Kolkata serving the needy. Wednesday- there was a power point presentation about Mother Teresa’s life. Saturday- Another skit was conducted on Missionaries of Charity. Friday- A quiz was conducted for all the classes.
